Every match the scorecard displays some stars along with the scores.

Wanted to know how this is determined.

The stars represent the Batting or Bowling Ability of the player, detailed info about what effects 'Abilities' in the game manual match engine section.

The ability of a batsman or a bowler varies almost every delivery. If batsman faces a spinner his batting vs spin is used to calculate, and batting vs seam is used if he faces a seamer the next ball. Similarly, a bowler's ability changes based on the over number. Therefore the ability value is recalculated at the start of every delivery.

The stars are the avg of the ability values over the couse of a batsman's innings or a bowlers's spell.

So basically the starts show how the players have done in a match and it has nothing to do with the match that he is playing to next.
